October 31, 2013
This tutorial is going to show you how to fix the missing new products on the front page of your site.
Magento. How to fix missing New Products issue
This mainly occurs when the template is installed without the sample data and you’d like to keep your current products.
- First off, you will need to make sure that you are using the same XML code for your Home page as it comes with the template. Log into your Magento admin panel. Go to the top menu CMS -> Pages. Click on your Home page in the list. It really depends on the particular template, but in most cases the HTML code that has the line that places the new products on your home page can be found under the Design tab. Open the template package on your computer. Navigate to the sources/demo/pages/ folder. Open the home_page.html file in a text editor. There you should file a line like this
- If you see the warning “One or more of the Indexes are not up to date: Catalog Search Index. Click here to go to Index Management and rebuild required indexes”. Click Index Management in the message or go to the top menu System -> Index Management. Check the index next to which you see the button “Reindex Required” (or just click Select all) and select Reindex Data and then Submit.
- Note that you must have some new products in your catalog for anything to show when you do this. In this context new doesn’t mean that you’ve recently added them; only products explicitly marked as new using ‘Set Product as New from Date’ and ‘Set Product as New to Date’ options in the ‘General’ product information page in the admin tool will be shown.
- Clear your Magento cache and check the product(s) on the front page.
Just copy the whole content of the file and paste it in the Layout Update XML field under the Design tab of your Home page.
It is also recommended to go to the System -> Configuration -> Content Management -> and select Enable WYSIWYG Editor -> Disabled by Default prior to this because the default editor may change the initial code. Click Save page at the top rigjht.
In other words, you will need to go to the catalog -> Manage products. Click on the product you want to see on the front page. Under General select the current date in the Set Product as New from Date option. And in Set Product as New to Date select the date from your product will expire.
Click Save or Save and Continue to Edit.
