In PrestaShop 1.6.x. subcategories are shown in the certain order in the drop down of Top Horizontal Menu:

Let us show you how you how to change this order:

1. Log into your PrestaShop admin panel and go to Catalog->Categories:

   

2. Pick your Category which includes Child categories that you want to edit. Select View button from the drop down list on the right.

   

3. You will see the list of subcategories. Pick up the subcategory which location should be changed and hover with your mouse over the field with subcategory number on the right. This number defines the sort order of subcategory at the front-end. The field will be highlighted with a blue color and cursor will be transformed:

   

4. Clicking on this blue field selects your subcategory, so you can drag and drop it to the new location. Sort order will be changed automatically as well:

   

5. And the last step, please refresh front-end to make sure that changes were made successfully:
