Divi 3 VS Monstroid 2: The Great Showdown

5/5 (1)

Hey, what’s happening guys? The internet is full of multi-purpose themes nowadays and it’s madness out there. I strictly recommend you not going to the market without my guidance, it’s too dangerous!

As you can see I started something like a weekly review thing by comparing our own product Monstroid 2 with other multi-purpose themes. It’s always a fair battle and  I’m pleased to announce the next theme showdown: Monstroid 2 versus Divi!  With that being said, let’s proceed and compare these two beautiful bastards!

GPL license

You know what’s really cool? GPL Themes! And, fortunately, both themes from today’s article are sold under the GPL license. For those, who don’t know it means that once you buy any of these multi-purpose themes you can use them as many times as you want, create as many websites as you want. This is creative freedom, my friends, deal with it!

Both, Monstroid 2 and Divi can be used on all the websites you own or you’re about to launch. You will not have to pay each time you want to start another project of yours.

Did someone say ‘Magic’?

The installation wizard is a cornerstone. Someone includes it, someone not. On our end, we believe that sending our customer into the woods without the map is not a good plan. It looks like this:

That is why Monstroid 2 has its own installation wizard that will help you to set everything up and running. You can choose the skin you like, tell our wizard if you want the demo data to be installed and go get a cup of coffee while our wizard is working for you.

Divi doesn’t offer any additional installation tools to the clients. But once you set everything up on your own, you’ll see the Divi control panel where you’ll be able to tune in some options and make Divi work as you want it to.

monstroid2-vs-divi-3

The only thing I am concerned about is that since Divi doesn’t include any installation wizard, it will not be so easy to change skins. Basically, you will have to go to their builder and edit each page by choosing the pre-loaded layout in the builder.

Payment plan

Just hear me out, here is the most disturbing moment I am experiencing while comparing these two themes. This is the point where everything becomes clear to me, but maybe that’s cause I’m not ready to pay too much money for my theme, but hey, that’s just me.

So in order to start building your websites on Monstroid 2, you will have to pay only once. The price for this theme is $75, so once you received your order - feel free to developing as many websites as you want.

monstroid2-vs-divi-4

Divi also offers you an opportunity to build as many websites based on their theme as you want. And that’s understandable, themes with builders should be GPL licensed, otherwise it will not make any sense, right?

But here is the problematic moment here: Divi is sold via annual subscription plan and you’ll have to choose a plan and pay every year the requested price.

Elegant Themes offer 3 plans for you, but here is the deal:

  1. If you choose to pay $69 a year, you will not get premium plugins and Layered Photoshop Files.
  2. If you choose the Developer’s play for $89, you will have to pay this price every year.
  3. If you want to pay only once, you can choose the ‘Lifetime Access’ plan, but the price will be $249 (!).

Well, if that’s your photo I’ve just found on the internet, I know what multi-purpose theme you’re using.

Skins

As of today Monstroid 2 offers 10 completely unique skins to fit customers needs. Check them out and you’ll see how well-thought-out and beautiful they are. Our designers always work for quality, not quantity. And that’s, actually, one of the key benefits of owning Monstroid 2, we always have something to offer to our sophisticated clients. More themes are coming later and every buyer will get them completely free of charge.

I mentioned before that Divi has pre-loaded layouts in its builder. That’s basically the way they offer the skins to the clients. It’s around 20+ themes, but you’ll also be able to upload new ones from the Elegant Themes website.

It’s also worth mentioning that while paying $89 per year, you will have access to any other Elegant Themes product on their website. So you will also be able to use each and every theme out of 88 ones they have.

Plugins

Monstroid 2 development was a huge deal and we tried to engage the best people available, the best projects we have. So thanks to Cherry and MotoPress teams we can proudly say that all Monstroid 2 owners get 20 + plugins along with their multi-purpose theme. They will surely help you to build a perfect website without having a headache about the plugins you need.

For those who like to build

If you had a chance to check out my article on our Power Builder you may know that building a website with this tool is pretty simple and even fun. I am very happy to let you know that Monstroid 2 includes Power Builder out of the box, so you will be able to customize your themes for your needs in the easiest possible way!

monstroid2-vs-divi-14

Divi provide their clients with the Divi Builder that looks very similar to Power Builder, and I’m not gonna lie, it’s easy to use too! They also offer a visual builder to make this the customization process even easier!

Documentation

What really makes me happy is the fact that people finally understood the importance of their products being well-documented. Seriously, your project may look really great, but only good documentation brings it to another level.

Monstroid 2 and Divi both include links to documentation to help the clients get started without any issues.

Conclusion

I have used Divi and have built many client sites with it. The visual editor is very useful to use. My only drawback is when you want to go to another theme. Divi is bloated with shortcodes.
I have used Monstroid and loved the child themes. With Monstroid 2, it seems more efficient. The Power builder definitely looks like the Divi builder. If the Power Builder adds a frontend visual editor it will definitely give Divi a run for its money. I was able to get the lifetime subscription of Divi at a discount. I’ve made the money back.
It’s good having options and Monstroid 2 and the MotoCMS templates are very good to use. I recently revamped my Divi site to a MotoCMS site. With Monstroid 2 out I’ll be using it to update some old client sites and new sites. Each has its pros and cons.

    • Alex Tkachenko

We are glad to hear that you like your new Monstroid 2. Our team of Monstroid designers and developers will work on making it better through-out the year, stay tuned and good luck with all your projects! 🙂

  • Elisandro Borges

Please, correct your table. You don’t pay 89$ monthly, but yearly for the developer plan. Yearly if you want the support, but if you stop the subscription, the updates are lifetime. I’ll check monstroid. It seems to be an amazing product! Thank you for comparing both tools.

    • Alex Tkachenko

      Hi Elisandro,
As you can see in the article itself, I mentioned that it’s an annual subscription.
I’ve just fixed the mistake in the table and I really appreciate you catching that one!
      Have a great day!

      • Elisandro Borges

Nice! You too, have a great day!

  • Alexandre

it still states $89 per month…underneath the divi template image. I purchased divi, and love it… but also considering this one.

  • Bob the webbuilder

You say “It’s also worth mentioning that while paying $89 a month, you will have access to any other Elegant Themes product on their website. So you will also be able to use each and every theme out of 88 ones they have”. As you already know, that price is per year, and the same goes for all plans.

I have the lifetime access plan and it gives me unlimited access to ALL their themes and plugins, including all future ones. Furtheron, there are a lot more than 20 “builder layouts” available, so Elegant Themes offers a lot of value for money.

By the way, @elisandroborges:disqus , according to the Elegant Themes website you’ll need an active subscription to get updates.

However, the Monstroid is priced quite competitively and as a webbuilder I love the “pay once, use unlimited” licence 🙂

  • Phillip Strauss

Hi Alex, just sharing that it is still mentioned as per Alexandre : “It’s also worth mentioning that while
paying $89 a month, you will have access to any other Elegant Themes
    product on their website.”

Fixing it gives your content a higher quality rating.
    Just my 2c

    • Alex Tkachenko

      Hi Phillip,
I cannot believe I missed it! I have just made the necessary adjustments, your attentiveness is greatly appreciated!
We are trying to build a hell of a blog here with good content and good people, thanks for your help!

  • Emilio Gagliardi

This review is not very well researched. I’ve been building with Divi for years and you didn’t do either platform justice. The workflow that Divi exposes, the resuability of code in global and local instances, the ability to preview any discrete object in mobile/tablet/desktop versions. This review doesn’t help developers, it’s geared towards solopreneurs who are probably only making a single website. If you’re a serious web developer I suggest you research divi further, much further. The content in this review is superficial and the “wins” for the author’s theme are cosmetic at best. For example, what do you need phone support for when the majority of issues are going to be CSS? To troubleshoot that you need links and screenshots. I personally believe in paying for support because I charge my clients for support. By paying ET I help improve the product and I get all my questions answered within 48 hours. You don’t even talk about the vast ecosystem of child themes and layouts now available.

  • Diego Siesta

Hi. thank you for the article.
Personally i got Divi lifetime plan for 150 $, on black Friday sale. they have some sales often.
also Divi has big facebook community with free child theme. and Elegant Theme also offers of about 100 child theme for free. the bad thing they don’t include tutorial how to use them, so you must google a lot.

I purchased both Monstroid2 and Divi 3. Divi is more mature. It just works. Monstroid2 failed to install on WP 4.7.2 even with their wizard which is more a sales trick than real help. Skins is another trick. Divi gives you access to a number of themes more the money (more than 10). So, Monstroid has some hidden costs. It’s not even Top 5 WP theme in my opinion. Because of that it’s not easy to find a developer for Monstroid2. In case you need one, you can go to Monstroid2 team and pay $249 for customisation. For Divi and other popular themes it costs much cheaper. If you are a newbie in WP it makes sense to buy Top 3 WP themes with moneyback guarantee and find which one works better for you.
