Hello, our fellow Joomloids! Today we are glad to share with you our small tutorial that would hopefully help you to install Joomla 1.6 template on your website. But not just a template, today we're going to install a Joomla 1.6 template with dump files. As you may have noticed, Joomla templates from TemplateMonster (as well as the templates from other providers) are delivered with dump files that are included into the download package and are meant to make your template-based website look more prepared.
Basically, it is a file containing initial settings that have to be applied to the template to make it look good.
Sometimes our clients complain about inappropriate template's look after it has been installed at the hosting. Of course there are many different issues that might occur during the installation, but today we are going to highlight some of the most important steps that will help you to avoid most common mistakes. Today's tutorial will help you to know more about the process of installing Joomla 1.6 template and importing dump files into database. But before we begin you can also check out another useful tutorial delivered by our friends from Templates.com Blog recently - it's a tutorial on how to install Joomla 1.6 engine.
Alright now, let's get to business. For this purpose we've chosen one of the most popular Joomla 1.6 templates that we have on TemplateMonster (8 downloads so far), it's a simple corporate Joomla template for consulting services company.
Step 1: Login to the Joomla administration panel (yourwebsite.com/administrator/) using your admin details
Step 2: Open the 'Install' tab at the Extension Manager of the admin panel
Step 3: Unzip the template package folder and find a directory containing design theme
Usually this directory is called Joomla and there you can find an archive with all files that you need. In our case we've unzipped it to check that everything is okay and continue by uploading theme's zip file to our website.
Step 4: Upload Template's Zip File by using the 'Install' tab at the Extensions Manager
Step 5: Go to the 'Template Manager' section, there you can set the uploaded theme as the default one. Choose radio button opposite to the theme you need and push "Make Default" star button in the top right corner
Step 6: Check website's home page to see the result
Below you can see the screenshot, for now there is a pretty messed up layout without any sign of a well-designed Joomla template. So, it means that we have to start download dump files to our database to make it look ok.
Step 7: Find the "Stories" folder in the template's directory. This folder contains all images that you need in order to properly display the theme on your website
Step 8: Upload all content from the 'Stories' folder into the 'Images' directory on your hosting
Please note: you have to upload these images into the directory by using following path: yourwebsite.com/images/stories. If there is no such folder in the 'images' directory, you should create it.
Step 9: Login to phpMyAdmin at your hosting panel and upload dump file to your database by using the 'Import' tab
The dump file can be found at the 'Sources' folder of your Joomla template (to unlock zip use your order ID as a password). Also in that folder you can find the module archives which must be installed on your Joomla engine too, otherwise you'll have some issues.
Step 10: After everything is done you can check out your website's home page and see the result
That’s it – congratulations! The Joomla 1.6 theme has been successfully installed onto your Joomla 1.6 engine. And as you can see, everything is not that difficult, with Joomla templates everything is always very easy. Please don’t hesitate to post your comments and opinions in the comments section, we’re always open for discussions.
