More than a month ago we started to develop and publish a series of articles about the eCommerce CMS and how to approach them. Our goal was to make it easier for you to work with the most popular website engines that can help you to create a store and start your own business. Sure, if you are a frequent guest on our blog, you may have noticed that we genuinely believe that every one of you should start your own business. Now it's time for a Magento vs PrestaShop comparison article.
The reason is simple; business is a part of your overall life success. It takes a lot of work to become a successful entrepreneur, but we believe that it’s much easier nowadays to reach the heights that looked like pie in the sky 5 or 10 years ago.
First of all, let me show you the full list of eCommerce tutorials that we have released:

Now let me explain the actual purpose of my article. All these separate tutorials are great and will help our customers to start their first eCommerce business. However, we want to make it easier for you to compare all these CMS and see which is the best eCommerce CMS.
It would sound pretty lame, but both of these platforms are very powerful. Yes, the first comparison is one of the toughest for me, because I strongly believe any of these two CMS can become your golden ticket to the train called ‘My first and very own store.' I truly love both of them, but let’s face it, we need to compare them and see what the pros and cons of each platform are.
Power is one of the most important building blocks of an eCommerce store. You need to make sure that you have a truly powerful engine under the hood of your shop.
Magento CMS is all about power. It may not seem very apparent once you see their dashboard, but you can be sure of one thing - it’s so powerful that it will blow your socks off.
The number of products it can handle is not limited and the number of orders that can be processed per hour exceeds 80,000. However, to encounter this kind of performance statistic, you will have to make sure that you are using the appropriate hosting plan.
Magento is like a huge and cool car that needs a lot of energy to power all its parts and gears.
On the other hand, PrestaShop works faster over all the aspects, but you should make no mistake, if you are trying to build a huge eCommerce project, you should consider Magento, since it works better with a huge volume of products, visitors, and sales.
On the other hand, we have Prestashop. You can manage pretty big stores using this eCommerce CMS, but you will need to look up to Magento in the event you are running a huge business with more than 10,000 products.
Otherwise, your store will kind of die in agony.
Here comes the most important aspect you need to understand when comparing these two CMS. Magento is a great workhorse, but it’s not a very friendly one.
However, when it comes to the installation process, I would say that it’s no worse than Prestashop.
The regular user with no experience of working with the CMS will be able to install both of them without any hassle; it’s as easy as working with WordPress.
There is only one flaw that I find inconvenient in the Magento installation process. To install the demo store, you need to download a separate archive and install it yourself.
And what do we have on the other hand? Prestashop can do it for you! Just click on one damn checkbox and you are set! How cool is that?
What’s easier to customize?
The answer is short and straightforward: Prestashop is easier to customize.
Yes, it’s more friendly and gives you more hints and basic explanations on how to customize your store so that it will fit all your needs. But is it perfect for everyone?
Here is the deal; some of us are not just simple users with a general knowledge base. Some people work as developers, and some of us are just more skilled in those areas.
For those people, Magento is easy to customize and also provides more features to make the system as flexible as required. Only Magento will help you to set the discount for a certain state, city or town and only in an example where this product has been bought less than 10 times already. It sounds like a completely crazy example, but you see what I’m saying, right?

In general, the customer service for the Magento products is not free and, for example, you’ll have to write a huge cheque to get the enterprise version. This version will cover the help of the Magento team with the issues you may have.
However, from our perspective, Magento and Prestashop users are equal. That is why we cover the customer service issues for all the Magento and Prestashop products. It means that you will not have to worry about the cost while trying to fix the issue on your website. Our customer service department works 24/7, so if you have bought one of our best premium Magento themes, customer service will always be free for you, so forget about the enterprise version!
Themes quantity available on the market
People often say that nowadays you may access a much wider range of premium Prestashop themes than Magento ones. Well… that’s true.
In our catalog, we have twice as many top-quality Prestashop themes than Magento ones. But make no mistake, we have a lot of those too!
As of today, our catalog offers you more than four hundred products in the Magento themes category and more than eight hundred products for the Prestashop users. These numbers are not that small, so I genuinely believe that anyone can find that ‘whale’ for their project.
Wrapping things up
These two eCommerce CMS are both amazing. The only tricky part for you here is to decide whether you are trying to build something huge and impressive or something small and simple. If you're planning to become a 'Fortune 500' member, you should consider Magento. Otherwise, Prestashop will suffice!
