It's been a while since we treated you with our cool interactive infographics. So, we have decided to make up for it with a "Web Development Market and Careers in the USA" analytic map providing a deeper insight into how the things are with the web development market all over the US. Our team made a deep research of the field, examined and compared loads data, and compiled the results into one map, which we are glad to introduce today.

The infographics includes 4 interactive maps showing data on web design and development companies, jobs,  salaries, and TemplateMonster's partners from each state. Here are the key findings:

  • there are 249,097 companies and 121,020 people working in the web design and development field across the United States;
  • an average web development company is a small web shop of 5 employees with an average cost of a project making up about $2500;
  • 82% of the total number of web developers are males, opposed to 12% of females;
  • 83% of developers work for companies, whereas 17% are freelancers;
  • an average developer is a male with a bachelor's degree working for a company, with an average salary of $68,670;
  • the largest companies with the highest-paid positions are located in metropolitan areas like California, San Francisco, Seattle, and San Jose;
  • the results of our research show that an average salary of a person working in the web design and development fields has increased up to 13,59% over the last 2 years;
  • in the meanwhile, web designers and developers earn more than their colleagues from the computer support industry ($68,670 vs $66,140);
  • an average of 5% of employees have been working in the field for less than 1 year, about 52% have 1-4 years of the working experience, 15% - 10-19 years, whereas professionals with more than 20 years of experience make up only 1% of the general number;
  • 43% of all web developers have a bachelor's degree, 20% have an associate degree, 13% have a post-graduate degree;
  • salary rates are in direct relation to the experience and working time of each candidate (thus a newcomer can expect to earn as much as $50,000, whereas more experienced specialists working for 5 to 9 years in the field can get up to $61,800; people with 15-20 years of working experience each $80,000–$81,000 on average);
  • in 2015, employment in the USA made up 148,500, with the estimated employment growth number 188,000 by 2024.
