This tutorial is going to show you how to install a new language on your Magento site.<\/p>\r\n

  1. Go to http:\/\/www.magentocommerce.com\/<\/a> and in the search field type the\u00a0 name of a new language pack, e.g. ‘Italian language pack’ and click the magnify glass.<\/li>\r\n
  2. Wait till the results show up. Click the link that says Magento Community Modules – Italian (Italy<\/strong>) Language<\/strong> Pack<\/a><\/li>\r\n
  3. On the next page, click Install Now<\/strong>. Check “I agree to the extension license agreement”<\/strong> and click Get Extension Key<\/strong>. You should be registered on the site to follow these steps. <\/li>\r\n
  4. When you are logged in, click the “Select key<\/strong>” button. It will highlight the URL which you will to copy.<\/li>\r\n

  5. Log into your Magento admin panel and go to the top menu System -> Magento Connect -> Magento Connect Manager<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n

  6. It will ask\u00a0 you to re-login with the same details used for the\u00a0 admin panel.<\/li>\r\n
  7. On the next page, under Extensions -> Install New Extensions -> Paste extension key to install<\/strong> paste the url you copied and click Install<\/strong>. Then click Proceed<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n

  8. This will install the language package for you. When you see the “cache cleaned successfully” message, open the Magento dashboard page again.<\/li>\r\n

  9. Go to System -> Manage Stores. <\/strong><\/li>\r\n

  10. Click Create Store view<\/strong><\/li>\r\n

  11. Fill all the fields in like this:<\/li>\r\n

  12. Click Save Store View. <\/strong>You will <\/strong>see <\/strong>the <\/strong>new store view added to the list<\/li>\r\n

  13. Go to the top menu System -> Configuration. <\/strong><\/li>\r\n

    \"\"<\/a><\/p>\r\n

  14. From the Current Configuration Scope<\/strong> on the left select Italian.<\/li>\r\n

  15. Under General -> Locale Options -> Locale<\/strong> select Italian (Italy).<\/li>\r\n

  16. Click Save Config.<\/strong><\/li>\r\n
  17. Go to the top menu System -> Design. <\/strong><\/li>\r\n

  18. Click Add Design Change<\/strong> at the top right. <\/li>\r\n
  19. Under General Settings select Italian for Score <\/strong>and your current theme <\/strong>for Custom Design. <\/strong><\/li>\r\n

  20. Click Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\r\n
  21. Clear Magento cache and open the front page of your site. Select the new language from the language box. <\/li>\r\n
  22. You template\u00a0 may have custom CMS blocks that you will need to re-create for the new language layout. Go to CMS -> Static Blocks<\/strong> -> Add New Block <\/strong>and <\/strong>re-create the exiting custom blocks like Footer Links, Footer list 1, Footer list 2, Custom tab, header-links etc (depending on your theme). The code can be taken from the existing blocks and changed manually. <\/strong><\/li>\r\n
  23. To avoid the ‘___from_store’ query string\u00a0 from\u00a0 the urls when you switch a different language, in \/app\/design\/frontend\/default\/template\/page\/switch\/languages.phtml f<\/strong>ind line 41 and change it from: <\/li>\r\n
    \r\necho $_lang->getCurrentUrl() \r\n<\/pre>\r\n
    To:<\/p>\r\n
    \r\necho $_lang->getCurrentUrl(false) \r\n<\/pre>\r\n
    Then  go to System -> Configuration -> General ->  Web in your Magento admin. <\/strong>Then Options -> Add Store Code to Urls -> Yes.<\/strong> <\/p>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n
