Hello! This video tutorial shows how to resolve missing categories issue in your Magento store.<\/p>\r\n

Magento Troubleshooter. Missing categories<\/a><\/p>\r\n

The tutorial assumes you are already logged into your admin panel.<\/p>\r\n

Go to Catalog ->Manage Categories<\/strong> tab. As you can see, we have 6 categories added there: Default Category, Cars, Bikes, Parts, Trucks and New. The New<\/strong> category is the one we have recently added, but if we check our store front-end it is not displayed in the category menu:<\/p>\r\n

The reason is the following: by default all the categories in Magento catalog are sub-categories of Default Category<\/strong>. Therefore, in case you have added a new category as the root category of your catalog it will not be displayed.<\/p>\r\n

Let’s make the New<\/strong> category appear in the category menu:<\/p>\r\n

  1. \r\n

    Go back to your Magento admin panel category management interface.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

  2. \r\n

    Click on the New<\/strong> category and drag and drop it right under Default Category<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

    The changes are applied automatically, so we will see the successful message in green at the top of the screen:<\/p>\r\n

    Let’s open the front-end and refresh the page – the New<\/strong> category is successfully added to our category menu:<\/p>\r\n

    It may happen when you accidentally remove the default category from your catalog. In this case you can always create a new root category and assign other categories to it.<\/p>\r\n

    However, the additional step is required in this case:<\/p>\r\n

      Go to System ->Manage Stores <\/strong>tab:<\/p>\r\n

      Then, click on the “Main Website Store”<\/strong> title under the Store Name<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

      On the appeared screen set the default category from the drop-down next to the Root Category *<\/strong> option. Click “Save Store”<\/strong> button at the top right corner to apply changes:<\/p>\r\n

      Categories should now be displayed in the category menu.<\/p>\r\n

      These are the most common reasons of missing categories in Magento.<\/p>\r\n
