This tutorial is going to show you how to work with blog post formats on your WordPress template.<\/p>\r\n

Create a new custom blog post. Log into your WordPress admin panel and go to the Posts<\/strong> > Add New<\/strong>:<\/p>\r\n

You will see Format<\/strong> section on the right side. Creating a blog post allows you to select one of the available post types: Standard<\/em>, Aside<\/em>, Gallery<\/em>, Link<\/em>, Image<\/em>, Quote<\/em>, Audio<\/em>, Video<\/em>:<\/p>\r\n

    Standart<\/strong> is the default post format:<\/p>\r\n

    Aside<\/strong> – a note like post, usually styled without title:<\/p>\r\n

    Gallery<\/strong> – post contains unlimited number of images. Which are displayed as a gallery:<\/p>\r\n

    Link<\/strong> – post containing link to another site:<\/p>\r\n

    Image<\/strong> is a default blog page displaying only the featured image:<\/p>\r\n

    Quote<\/strong> – a quotation post:<\/p>\r\n

    Creating Standard Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

    To create a Standard <\/strong>blog post, follow these steps: <\/p>\r\n

    1. \r\n

      Select Standard<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

    2. \r\n

      Enter post title.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

    3. \r\n

      Add your content. It will be displayed as description text below the post image.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

    4. \r\n

      Under the Categories<\/strong> panel check the categories you would like to assign your new post to.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

      Creating Aside Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

      To create posts based on Aside<\/strong> Format, follow the steps below:<\/p>\r\n

      1. \r\n

        Check Aside<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

      2. \r\n

        You may leave title field empty. Aside<\/strong> post format does not require title to be added.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

      3. \r\n

        Add your post content.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

        Creating Gallery Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

        To create posts based on Gallery<\/strong> Format, which come in handy with WordPress artist portfolios<\/a>, follow the steps below:<\/p>\r\n

        1. \r\n

          Check Gallery<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

        2. \r\n

          Follow steps 2-4 required for creating Standard Format.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

        3. \r\n

          Click Set Featured Image<\/strong> under Featured Image<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

        4. \r\n

          Select Upload to this post<\/strong> option from drop down under Media Library<\/strong>. Chose several images from your computer. Press and hold the Ctrl<\/strong> key (or the Command<\/strong> key on your Mac) while clicking photos to select multiple images.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

        5. \r\n

          Select one of the images you uploaded and click Set Featured Image<\/strong> at the bottom. Update\/publish your post:<\/p>\r\n

          Creating Link Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

          To create posts based on Link<\/strong> Format, follow the steps below:<\/p>\r\n

          2. \r\n

            Follow steps 2-4 required for creating Standard Format.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

            Enter your URL under Link settings<\/strong> field:<\/p>\r\n

            Creating Image Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

            To create posts based on Image<\/strong> Format like in wordpress artist<\/a> templates, follow the steps below:<\/p>\r\n

              Check Image<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

            2. \r\n

              Follow steps 2-4 required for creating Standard Format.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

            3. Click Set Featured Image<\/strong> under Featured Image<\/strong> section.<\/li>\r\n
            4. \r\n

              You can upload image from your computer. Click on Upload Files<\/strong>. Image will appear in your site Media Library<\/strong>. Select image you uploaded. Click on Set featured image<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n

              Creating Quote Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

              To create posts based on Quote<\/strong> Format, follow the steps below:<\/p>\r\n

                Check Quote<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

              2. \r\n

                Follow steps 2-4 required for creating Standard Format.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

              3. \r\n

                Put your quote to The Quote<\/strong> field, under Quote Settings<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

              4. \r\n

                Input author name to the Author<\/strong> field, under Quote Settings<\/strong> section:<\/p>\r\n

                Creating Audio Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

                To create posts based on Audio<\/strong> Format, follow the steps below:<\/p>\r\n

                  Check Audio<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

                2. Follow steps 2-4 required for creating Standard Format.<\/li>\r\n
                3. \r\n

                  Input audio title and artist.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

                4. \r\n

                  Select the Format for your file. You can use: mp3, wav, ogg formats.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

                5. \r\n

                  Go to the Media<\/strong> -> Add New<\/strong> menu and upload your audio file. When it is uploaded click on Edit<\/strong>. On the next page copy the file address from the File URL field. Paste it to the Audio URL<\/strong> field:<\/p>\r\n

                  Creating Video Format Blog post<\/h3>\r\n

                    Check Video<\/strong> under Format<\/strong> section.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

                  2. \r\n

                    Follow steps 2-4 required for creating Standard Format.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

                    Input video details: Title<\/em>, Artist<\/em>, URL <\/em>or Embedded code<\/em> under Video settings<\/strong> field:<\/p>\r\n

                    Go to the Media > Add New\u00a0 <\/strong>menu \u00a0and upload your video file.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n

                    Once it is uploaded, click Edit<\/strong>. On the next page copy the file address from the File URL field. Paste it in URL#1<\/strong> or URL#2<\/strong> fields of your post. You can embed Youtube, Vimeo video under Embedded code<\/strong> field.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n
