The attribute set term is usually used when we talk about Magento and it means a collection of attributes.

When creating a new product, you will be prompted to select the default or any other attribute set, so it is worth creating the attribute sets before creating the products themselves.

We use attributes for the products that have special features like small, medium or large size. So the size is the attribute set and small, medium, large are its attributes.

Attribute sets come in hand when you are selling products with different features. For example, size, height, color, etc. Note that it is better to use different attribute sets if you want to add the color attribute set for bags and sweaters: “Bags color” and “Sweater color” due to the fact that they can have different values. The label can be the same, but we must be sure they will be separate entities in the database.
