Cloud Server
July 11, 2016
Cloud server is a virtual server which is built, hosted and delivered through a cloud computing platform over the Internet.
Cloud servers have similar capabilities and functionality as an ordinary server but are accessed remotely from a cloud service provider. A cloud server may also be called a virtual server.
Such servers run as software-independent units. This means that a cloud server has all the software it requires to run and does not depend on any centrally-installed software.
The popularity of cloud servers constantly grows, and they are often preferred to the traditional dedicated servers.
Among the main reasons of such tendency are the undeniable benefits cloud servers offer:
Economical efficiency: for a similar price, with cloud servers you will receive more resources and your server will be faster.
Flexibility and scalability: extra resource can be accessed easily when required, the memory limit can be enlarged really fast.
Reliability: cloud servers don’t suffer from hardware problems, the process of data backup and recovery is much simpler than other traditional methods of data storage.
Security: as your data is stored on the cloud, you can access it no matter what happens to your machine.
Automatic software updates: you don’t have to worry about spending time on maintaining the system as the suppliers take care of all software the updates, including the security updates.
Ease of setup: cloud servers don’t require much initial setup, you can work from any device available to your hand.
On the other hand, security and lack of access and full control are potential concerns with cloud server hosting.
