Crossbrowserness is the ability of a website to function flawlessly in different/multiple environments, i.e. browsers.

The crossbrowserness is required when the website is being developed for different browsers. Since each browser has its own requirements in this respect, a web-developer may need to apply cross-browser CSS rules in order to adapt the website for the particular browsers.
