Generally, Geolocation is the identification of the real-world geographic location of an object, such as a radar source, mobile phone or Internet-connected computer terminal. In our case, geolocation is used to discover the location of a visitor, using his or her computer’s IP and other tools. One of the uses of geolocation is to block visitors from certain cities/countries.

To explain Geolocation simply, it’s the technology that allows a website to "see" where a visitor is located by his IP Address. That doesn’t mean the website captures your name and home address without your authorization (that is a violation of privacy law). It does mean that it can determine what country, state and city you are located in. The geolocation API allows users to provide their location to web applications if they desire so. For privacy reasons, the user is asked for permission to report location information.

Geolocation is also the latitude and longitude coordinates of a particular location. Geolocation usually works by automatically looking up an IP address on a WHOIS service and retrieving the registrant’s physical address.

For example, Prestashop engine includes Geolocation feature by default (more information you will find via this link). For OpenCart, WooCoommerce and Magento sites you can install additional extensions to add geolocation feature, in Shopify you will need to add an additional script to use geolocation identification on your site.
