A hero image is a term used to describe an oversized banner image at the top of a website.

The hero image is often the first visual element a visitor encounters on the site and its purpose is to present an overview of the site’s most important content.

The trend of hero images may be summarized as large attractive headers. Most of these images are photographs which directly relate to the content.

A hero image often consists of image and text, can be static or dynamic (e.g. a rotating list of images and/or topics).
