Hosting is the service for managing domains. Hosting services are most often used for hosting Web sites but can also be used for hosting files, images, games and similar content.
There are several types of hosting:
-
Shared Web hosting, where a large number of web sites/domains are typically housed on the same server.
-
Dedicated Web hosting , where an entire server is leased and reserved for a single Web site.
-
Virtual Private Server hosting , a hybrid of the first two options in which a Web site is hosted on its own virtual server, so that it won’t be affected by the Web sites of other customers.
At first when customer wants to create a site, he should choose a domain name, register it and buy hosting for the domain. As usual hosting may be registered for the domain. After domain registration you should verify if the domain has name servers and DNS records. To make all hosting services work properly (mail, domain, ftp services), the hosting provider may recommend to use its own name servers and DNS records.
After registration you ought to wait for propagation: 48-72 hours for Name Servers and 24-48 hours for DNS records.
As usual, after registration you will have access to the control panel, some hosting providers may give you webmail interface. Via the control panel you may manage your ftp account, email accounts, databases, have phpMyadmin access, set passwords, manage files, manage SSL certificates, website statistics, content backups, etc.
Also, with hosting provider you ought to set software parameters: PHP, .NET, ASP, JSP, Perl; databases – MySQL, Access, MSSQL; email – email accounts, sendmail; disk space, bandwidth, transfer files, disk usage.
Most hosting service providers cater to most varied demands, before creating your site you may choose hosting and hosting package for managing the site.
