Invoice (also called a bill of sale) is a commercial document that contains detailed description of the purchase: a list of items or the provided services, their prices, quality, taxes and shipping cost, etc. that a seller provides the buyer.

There are nearly 20 different types of invoices. Nowadays the invoices are more widely transmitted electronically. All modern e-commerce engines include a function of generating and editing an invoice. The main formats of used are XML, PDF, etc.

Standards for electronic invoicing vary widely in all countries.

If an invoice is lost, the buyer may request a copy from the seller.
