root folder

Site root folder is the main directory of a website, it’s the top directory in the site structure which includes all the site subfolders and files.

Also root is the folder which includes index.php or index.html file which initializes site on a server.

Root folder name depends on your server settings. Depending on the host you are using, the root folder may be called “public_html”, “html”, “htdocs”, “httpdocs”, “www”. It may bear your domain name, it’s the case when you are having several sites on one server:
