SPAM is the way to propagate unnecessary, suspicious or other information via Internet. Spammers harvest recipient addresses from publicly accessible sources, use programs to collect addresses on the web, and simply use dictionaries to make automated guesses at common usernames at a given domain. Spam email is a form of commercial advertising which is economically viable because email is a very cost-effective medium for the sender. If just a fraction of the recipients of a spam message purchase the advertised product, the spammers are making money.

Spam is also a medium for fraudsters to scam users into entering personal information on fake Web sites using emails forged to look like they are from banks or other organizations, such as PayPal. This is known as phishing. Targeted phishing, where known information about the recipient is used to create forged emails, is known as spear-phishing.

There are several types of Spam

  1. Email Spam

  2. Comment Spam

  3. Instant Messenger Spam

  4. Junk Fax

  5. Unsolicited Text Messages

  6. Social Networking Spam

Types of email Spam:

  1. Unsolicited bulk email (UBE) — unsolicited email, sent in large quantities.

  2. Unsolicited commercial email (UCE) — this more restrictive definition is used by regulators whose mandate is to regulate commerce.

There are several types of Email Spam messages with different content:

  1. Image spam, or image-based spam is an obfuscating method in which the text of the message is stored as a GIF or JPEG image and displayed in the email. This prevents text-based spam filters from detecting and blocking spam messages.

  2. Blank spam is spam lacking a payload advertisement. Often the message body is missing altogether, as well as the subject line. Blank spam may be originated in different ways, either intentional or unintentionally.

  3. Backscatter is a side-effect of email spam, viruses and worms, where email servers receiving spam and other mail send bounce messages to an innocent party. This occurs because the original message’s envelope sender is forged to contain the email address of the victim. A very large proportion of such email is sent with a forged From: header, matching the envelope sender.

If you receive a lot of spam (unnecessary) email messages, you ought to verify your spam filters. As usual you have several options for sorting/receiving suspiciously email messages: deliver with mark "SPAM", deliver to the special email folder, delete all suspicious message. You can also create black list and allow list.

Spam filter may recognize email with download link as suspicious. You can be sure that our template archives have been checked for malware programs. You may allow email messages with template download link as "Not SPAM". If you do not see email with download link, please check if you haven’t enabled the option deleting all suspicious email messages or moving them to the Junk/SPAM folder.
