  1. SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer. It is a way of encrypting data that’s sent over the Internet.

  2. In other words when your site uses SSL, the information being sent back and forward is encrypted. Therefore, if someone will try to intercept it they will not be able to do anything with the encoded information.

  3. SSL is important if you are transmitting sensitive private data over the Internet, for example, on e-commerce websites where you hand the credit card details.

  4. It is also highly recommended to use SSL on the customer account pages, where you have a login form, which asks for username and password.

  5. In addition to that, security is a top priority for Google, therefore SSL is good for your search rankings.

  6. Last but not least, SSL is a good way to increase confidence in your site, when your site visitor sees the padlock to the left of the domain name in your web browser’s address bar.
