taxonomy
September 8, 2015
A taxonomy is a system for naming (labeling) and organizing things into groups that share similar characteristics. Basically, a taxonomy is a way to group things together. The option helps to make site content structured and search-engines friendly.
In WordPress, a taxonomy is a grouping mechanism for some posts (or links or custom post types). WordPress has two very popular taxonomies that people use on a regular basis: Categories and Tags. You can use custom taxonomies to create custom groups and bring them under one umbrella. More information on taxonomies in WordPress you can find via this link.
In Joomla, a taxonomy is a grouping mechanism for some articles. It is similar to the taxonomy in WordPress and represented by categories and tags. In Joomla taxonomies can be extended via CCK (Content Construction Kits) systems, like K2.
In Drupal, a taxonomy is an extensive term that is used to classify content into categories and tags which are united by vocabulary. Basically, taxonomy is a module that can help to organize content by terms. Taxonomy in Drupal is performed by means of module which is enabled by default. Site administrator can enter, update and edit vocabulary from the "Admin -> Structure -> Taxonomy" menu of the back-end. When vocabulary is ready to go, user can use list of existing terms and add them for classification from ready-to-go drop-down list or enter and save new tags out of hand.
