Template override is a file or a database entry that is loaded instead of the main core file. Template overrides are used to override modules, components and languages.

The information regarding layout, heading tags and many other settings is located in engine files. The files with the same settings can be found in template files as well.

If there is a necessity to change some settings, the changes should be performed in template files. In case engine files are edited, the changes will be lost after engine update.
